The Exile Kiss by George Alec Effinger

The third novel in the Budayeen Trilogy. We're still following the same hero, this time falsely accused, exiled, and forced to find his way back from a desert wilderness. It had enjoyable moments, but the world seemed less well realized; the plot was full of holes; and the characters were either well-worn from the earlier books or entirely flat. On the whole, I found it even more derivative than the second book. I can only recommend it to people who read the first two books and desperately wanted more in the same universe.
I'm a bit conflicted; I can't tell if I would have found this book quite so thin if I hadn't enjoyed the first one so much. I think, having completed the trilogy, that I would certainly recommend the first book to cyberpunk fans, but would advise taking a pass on the second two books in the trilogy.
