A Room with a View by E.M. Forster

Witty and lightly comic, with plenty of well-turned phrases. It's a late Victorian novel, so the gender politics are iffy, but nowhere near as bad as the opening of the book might suggest. By the end of the book it becomes clear that the author is, if not progressive, at least sympathetic. A pleasant read, in any case, with some memorable apothegms.
