The Ice Shirt by William Vollman

Absolutely unreal. A magical realist historical novel (bordering at times on outright fantasy) written in the "high literary" style that was in vogue in the 80's and early 90's (think David Foster Wallace, Cormac McCarthy, et al.). Notionally about Eirik the Red and Leif Eriksson's colonization of Greenland and of "Vinland" (probably Newfoundland or Nova Scotia) as seen by both the Norsemen and the Native peoples, it is also a creepy deep dive into myth, the saga tradition, and human evil.
Blood Meridian if it were about Vikings and the Judge actually were a sorcerer. Not for the faint of heart, but worth the labor.
